There’s
no doubt about it: a hip flask can make you feel cool and almost invincible.
Knowing you have this handy little unit tucked away around your person can give
you a sense of power. When people drink alcohol,
they suddenly feel invincible and entitled to do many things that they would
not normally get away with. While there can be
some pleasure in that, there are some important things never to do when
carrying a hip flask. After all, you are not really invincible.
Underage Drinking
Underage
drinking should never be encouraged, whether a hip flask is part of the
equation or not. As the owner of a hip flask, you may know that it’s polite to
offer a drink to anyone around you. However, this should never extend to
underage drinkers.
Drinking while Driving
Sure,
a hip flask is a cool accessory to have around for taking a quick sip at
parties or festivals. However, there are certain occasions where it’s just
better to stay off the drink. This includes when you are going to be driving or
operating heavy machinery. Hey, in those cases you can always fill up your hip
flask with water and sip from it just the same!
Riding a Bicycle while Drunk
Though it seems like a good idea at the moment, it's going to hurt if
you fall off, and no doubt you will. We have less control over our motor skills
when drunk so it will be hard to keep balance. Our judgment and spatial
awareness are also affected so there is a chance you may collide with another
object or worse, injure a person!
Drinking During Solemn Occasions
It goes without saying that you shouldn’t be whipping out your hip flask
during solemn occasions such as funerals. There’s a time and place for
everything, and a funeral is definitely not the right place to get in a quick
sip.
Filling It with Anything Other Than Water or Spirits
One
thing never, ever to do when carrying a hip flask is filling it with anything
other than plain water or hard liquor such as whiskey or vodka. Fizzy drinks,
acidic drinks, and hot drinks are all unsuitable for putting into a hip flask.
Hot drinks can put you at risk of injury from scalds and burns. Hip flasks
simply aren’t designed to handle fizzy and acidic drinks, and this can result
in premature damage if you choose to fill it up.
