There are a variety of flat bottle openers
out there you can take your pick from. Whether you are an aspiring bartender or
simply like to have one on hand for the right occasion, you can choose from a
number of different types to suit your needs.
Multi Opener
Besides beer bottles, do you open other
types of drink cans and bottles often? For instance, these can be milk cans and
wine bottles that come with cork stoppers. A multi
opener comes with a few types of tools such as a bottle cap opener, a ring
puller, a tin lip opener, and a jar pop. With just one handy tool, you can get
several jobs done at once!
Crown Cork Opener
Did you know that the bottle cap for beers
and soft drinks is technically known as the cork crown? That’s where this
opener gets its name from! Another name for it is the Church-key. With a handle
on one end and either a rounded or rectangular opener on the other end, the
crown cork opener is meant to be used with both hands. While one hand holds the
bottle down, the other works on removing the cap!
Bar Key
Bar keys are flat bottle openers that every
bartender has in their repertoire. With a hole on one end, this can be looped
to form a keychain, which can then be hung on the bartender’s pocket or belt.
Did you know that the circular end of a bar key can also be used for opening
bottles? Although the other end is more frequently used, there is some skill
involved in opening a bottle with the circular end and the results can actually
be better as it does not damage the popped bottle cap!
Wall-Mounted Opener
Wall-mounted openers can be used
single-handedly, making them a great choice for bars with limited countertop
space. The wall is used to provide stability whilst one hand works the opener
to get the bottle cap off!
Twin Prong Cork Puller
This type of opener is also known as
Butler’s friend. It comes with two strips of metal at the end. To use it,
simply position both ends between the cork and the bottle and pull. Although
there are other types of openers you can use for removing corks, the twin prong
cork puller does the cleanest possible job, reducing the chances of the cork
dropping into your wine!
