Forget
dogs! A knife is a man’s best friend. This is the reason why a custom engraved knife makes such a functional and
memorable gift for almost any occasion that can include birthdays, weddings,
Father’s Days, or anniversaries. By customizing the knife with an engraving,
you could enhance the impact and sentimentality of the gift. If you want to
make sure that the recipient will continue using and appreciating your gift,
there are some things that you can consider which we explain in more details in
the following post.
Pick the Right Knife
The model
of the knife is your foundation as the gift begins with the knife. We are not
able to tell you which specific knife to choose as you need to know the
personal preferences of the recipient. We are only able to point you in the
right direction so as to better guide you along the way. For a wedding, it is
recommended for you to avoid survival knives. Go for something smaller like a
basic swiss army knife that will come in handy for
day-to-day household tasks.
Stay Away from Witty Engravings
The second
most important aspect of knife gifting is the engraving. What you actually
engrave on the knife can make or break the gift. A rule of thumb to follow is
to pick a phrase that is basic or more general. You may be tempted to engrave
something witty like “WAZZUP” but the gift could easily lose its meaning pretty
quickly. However, if you feel that your recipient would appreciate your
wittiness, then go for it!
Keep It Personal
We do
recommend going for basic phrases to be engraved on the knife but you can still
go classic. You can choose to engrave the recipient’s name or initials which will
make their gift even more unique. Go as personal as you can so the knife can
hold great sentimental value for many more years to come.
Consider the Engraving Font
Always
consider the font you use to engrave the knife. There are many different fonts
to choose from, with each one exhibiting its own flair and personality. It all
boils down to your personal taste but some fonts best go with certain messages.
If you are looking at engraving witty phrases, go for a modern font. If you are
looking to engrave something classic like the recipient’s name or initials, you
can consider an Old English font. You also need to consider the number of
characters that you wish to engrave. Larger fonts may be suitable only for
shorter words or just initials.
Double-Check Spelling
Spelling is vital as you do not want to ruin
your gift with misspelled inscriptions. If you are not that close to the
recipient, make sure you know exactly how their names spell out. To prevent the
recipient from hating their gift due to misspelled engravings, you can always
go for generic phrases that you can never go wrong at spelling. To be on the
safe side, always check the spelling two to three times before you submit your
engraving order.
